SECS / GEM Developer

Serves as the junior technical resource for the company’s manufacturing execution system (MES) to ensure the system’s reliable and secure use. The position’s initial focus will be supporting and developing the integration of this startup’s manufacturing tools and MES system using SEMI Equipment Communications Standard (SECS)/Generic Equipment Model (GEM).

Major Areas of Responsibility

Includes but is not limited to:

  • Develop, support, and document code to integrate manufacturing tools with MES via SECS/GEM; use project management methodology and regular communications to ensure success.
  • Manage MES user accounts and access control.
  • Manage routine needs of MES databases; work with manager, the publisher, and IS on databases when needed.
  • Support user-created manufacturing run processes and custom reports.
  • Support and enforce change management and system documentation.
  • Monitor and report on MES capacity and utilization.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Primary Objectives

The reliable, secure, and timely use of MES is fundamental to the company’s manufacturing and research operations. This position is being considered to help ensure MES is properly used.

This position will work closely with MES users and company IS. MES users are expected to be the primary resource for MES recipe creation and management. IS will support the MES systems infrastructure such as server operating systems, network and systems backup. This position will work with IS to support IS policies, disaster recovery planning, information security, systems documentation, capacity planning, and MES service tickets.

Specific Responsibilities of the Job

  • Major code contributor to the company’s phased implementation of its manufacturing tools using SECS/GEM standard when possible.
  • Be available 24×7 for emergency system issues impacting production.
  • Support users and custom reports.
  • Support change management process for MES.
  • Work with IS to plan and report on capacity and systems performance.
  • Develop and facilitate a constructive relationship with the MES publisher.
  • Seek best practices and engage with MES user groups.
  • Support MES system upgrades.
  • Support the creation and adoption of processes including standard operating procedures where beneficial.
  • Develop and maintain system and process documentation.
  • Support the MES needs of members, partners and customers on occasion as requested by manager.
  • Participate in management and company staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars as needed to accomplish the organization’s and department’s goals.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Multiyear experience in SECS/GEM development needed, ideally with znt-Richter’s Process Automation Controller (PAC) platform. Demonstrated change management and project management experience. Ability to work individually, effectively communicate with other technical and non-technical associates.

  • Communicate easily in English.

Education and Experience

  • At least two years of SECS/GEM experience.
  • Some experience with manufacturing is ideal.
  • At least an undergraduate degree, preferably in manufacturing, engineering, computer science or related field or work experience.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required to perform this job include close vision.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and will access a chip fabrication facility with very strict air quality controls and the use of highly hazardous materials. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
